پیچیدن (pichidan) is a native Persian verb that covers a range of twisting and wrapping actions. It can mean to wrap something around an object, to twist a limb or material, or to coil like a snake or a wire. In everyday speech it also appears in the phrase جاده میپیچد (jâdeh mi-pichad), meaning “the road curves.” A useful contrast is تنیدن (tanidan), which refers to the steady, interlaced weaving of a web or thread, while پیچیدن emphasizes the act of winding or twisting around something.

The adjective پیچیده (pichideh), derived from this root, is one of the most common words for “complicated” or “complex” in modern Persian. So the same verb that describes wrapping a bandage also gives Persian speakers their everyday word for “it’s complicated.”
