نامرد

Persian moral vocabulary leans heavily on the word مرد and the cluster around it: مردانگی ("manliness, honor"), جوانمرد ("chivalrous person"), نامرد ("dishonorable"). The frame ties ethical behavior to an idealized masculinity inherited from classical literature, especially the futuwwa tradition of guildhall ethics, where honor codes were taught alongside trades. Modern usage often applies the same vocabulary to women without rewriting it, which sits uncomfortably for some speakers and feels invisible to others. The word is alive and frequent, but it carries this gendered baggage you should hear when you use it. Iranian films love نامرد as a pivot point in moral arguments, and the word almost always lands at a moment of betrayal revealed: a friend who lied, a partner who cheated, a witness who walked away.
