What it means
گردنبند (gardanband) is the everyday Persian word for necklace. It is a transparent compound of گردن (gardan, neck) and بند (band, tie or fastening), meaning literally a neck-tie or neck-band. The word covers everything from a simple chain to an elaborate piece of fine jewellery. It is a neutral, concrete noun used naturally in all registers, from market conversation to formal descriptions. A related word is زنجیر (zanjir, chain), which can describe the chain portion of a necklace specifically, while گردنبند refers to the complete piece.
