Armita Geravand (آرمیتا گراوند) was a 16-year-old Iranian schoolgirl who fell into a coma on the Tehran metro on 1 October 2023 and died on 28 October 2023. The cause of her injury is officially disputed.
Boarded a Tehran metro train at Shohada station without a headscarf on 1 October 2023. Was carried out unconscious moments later. Iranian state media (IRNA, Borna) reported she had fainted from low blood pressure and struck her head on a platform edge. Hengaw and Iran-International, citing sources close to the family, reported she had been physically assaulted by hijab-enforcement officers inside the carriage. The Tehran metro company confirmed the carriage was equipped with surveillance cameras, but internal-train footage was never released. She was held in the intensive care unit of an Army hospital, declared brain-dead on 22 October, and declared dead on 28 October. Her family was placed under heavy security pressure throughout.
The script was the same one the regime used for Mahsa Amini almost exactly twelve months earlier. A teenage girl walks into a state-controlled space without a hijab. She comes out unconscious. The state says it was her body that failed, never the officers. The CCTV that would settle the question is the one piece of evidence the state never produces. Armita Geravand died on the anniversary of the uprising her death repeats.
Because the Geravand case demonstrates the post-2022 hijab-enforcement architecture in microcosm: a coercive encounter, a contested death, a controlled forensic record, a family placed under surveillance, an unreleased CCTV file. The repetition of the pattern is the point.

آرمیتا گراوند (Armita Geravand) was a 16-year-old high-school student in Tehran. On the morning of 1 October 2023, CCTV released by the metro operator showed her boarding a train at Shohada station without a headscarf. Moments later she was carried unconscious from the carriage. State media said she had fainted and struck her head. The Norway-based Kurdish rights group Hengaw, citing her own circle, reported she had been assaulted by morality-police officers enforcing the compulsory hijab. Iranian authorities released no internal-train CCTV. She was declared brain-dead on 22 October. She died on 28 October 2023, one year and twelve days after Mahsa Amini.
