Wyzant is a US-focused tutoring marketplace with about 25 Persian/Farsi tutors available. You browse profiles, check reviews, and book directly. Lessons happen online via the platform's video tool. Wyzant takes a commission, and tutors set their own rates. No subscription required; pay per lesson.

My 3 Trial Lessons

Lesson 1 ($18/hr): A university student tutoring on the side. Friendly but unstructured. We chatted in Farsi, she corrected my grammar occasionally, but there was no lesson plan. Good conversation practice, questionable teaching value.

Lesson 2 ($35/hr): A former university instructor with 10 years experience. Structured lesson with homework from the previous session, grammar focus on ezafe chains, and a mini quiz. Professional and efficient. Worth every dollar.

Lesson 3 ($50/hr): A PhD candidate in linguistics. Overkill for most learners. Fascinating explanations of why Persian grammar works the way it does, but the academic depth wasn't what I needed for conversational improvement.

Platform Pros

The review system is genuine. Ratings reflect real student experiences, and you can read detailed feedback before booking. The pay-per-lesson model means no commitment. Try a tutor, and if they're not right, try another. Background checks add a safety layer that some competitors skip.

Platform Cons

The Farsi tutor pool is small. 25 tutors means limited scheduling flexibility, especially if your timezone doesn't align with available tutors. Prices skew higher than italki or Preply because Wyzant's commission is baked into the rate. The platform feels designed for math and SAT tutoring; language learning is an afterthought.

A good tutor accelerates speaking skills faster than any app or textbook. But at $35+/hr, the cost adds up. Two lessons a week for a month is $280. That same money buys a year of most apps plus a textbook. Tutoring makes sense for specific goals: improving pronunciation, preparing for conversations with Iranian family, or pushing past an intermediate plateau.

The Verdict

Wyzant is a safe but expensive option for Farsi tutoring. The quality range is wide; the mid-range tutors ($30-40/hr) offer the best value. For US-based learners who want vetted tutors with reviews, it works. For everyone else, italki and Preply offer more tutors at lower prices.
