What Is Farsish?

Farsish is a browser extension that converts Finglish (Persian typed in Latin letters) to Farsi script in real-time within any text field. Type in any input box on any website, press a hotkey, and your Finglish becomes proper Persian script. It's Behnevis functionality built directly into your browser.

What Works

Convenience is the selling point. Instead of opening Behnevis in a separate tab, copying text, converting, and pasting back, Farsish does the conversion in-place. Write a comment on Instagram in Finglish, tap the hotkey, and it becomes proper Farsi. For heritage speakers who text in Finglish but want to post in script, this saves real time.

The conversion accuracy is comparable to Behnevis. Common words and phrases convert reliably. The context-aware algorithm handles most ambiguities in Persian transliteration.

Where It Falls Short

Same fundamental issue as Behnevis: it's a crutch that prevents learning Persian typing. Every time you convert from Finglish instead of typing in Farsi, you miss an opportunity to build keyboard muscle memory. The convenience works against long-term learning.

Accuracy drops for uncommon words, proper nouns, and code-switching within sentences. If you mix English and Finglish in one text field, the extension can misinterpret which parts to convert. Browser compatibility and updates can be inconsistent.

Who Should Use This

Heritage speakers who communicate in Farsi online regularly. Learners who need to type Persian script but haven't mastered the keyboard yet. Social media users who want their posts in proper Farsi rather than Finglish.

The Verdict

Farsish is Behnevis without the tab-switching. If you type in Persian online frequently and haven't learned the Farsi keyboard, it saves time. But the same warning applies: make it a bridge to proper typing, not a permanent crutch. Learn the Persian keyboard layout eventually.
