What Is Aparatchi?

Aparatchi streams live Iranian TV channels for free, similar to Telewebion but as an independent platform. It offers access to IRIB channels plus some satellite channels, making it one of several options for watching Iranian TV outside Iran. No registration required for basic viewing.

What Works

Free access to live Iranian TV with no signup friction. For advanced learners who've outgrown structured content and need raw immersion, having Iranian TV running in the background builds passive listening skills. The variety of channels means you can find content matching your interests.

The platform is simpler than Telewebion, which can be an advantage. Less clutter, fewer features, but faster access to live streams.

Where It Falls Short

Same fundamental problem as Telewebion: no subtitles, not designed for learners, too fast for anyone below B2. The stream quality can be inconsistent, and channel availability fluctuates. The platform doesn't add any educational value beyond being a free TV pipe.

The legitimacy and longevity of free TV streaming platforms can be uncertain. Channels go offline, streams break, and there's no guarantee the platform will exist next year. It's a convenience tool, not a reliable educational resource.

Who Should Use This

Advanced learners who want free background immersion. Diaspora Iranians who want live TV without paying for satellite. A Telewebion alternative if that platform is unavailable in your region.

The Verdict

Aparatchi is Telewebion's scrappier cousin. Same concept (free Iranian TV), less polish, comparable content. If you're already at the level where raw Iranian TV is useful, having a backup streaming source doesn't hurt. But don't seek it out as a learning tool. It's a TV pipe, nothing more.

For listening practice at your actual level, ZabanYar's graded content meets you where you are instead of drowning you in native-speed TV.

Full disclosure. ZabanYar is my own app. I built it, so treat any recommendation of it on this page as an interested one rather than an independent verdict. Everything else here is my honest read, and you are welcome to check it against someone else's.

Is Aparatchi free?

Yes. Live TV streaming is free with no registration required. Some features may have limitations, but basic viewing costs nothing.

How does Aparatchi compare to Telewebion?

Both stream Iranian TV for free. Telewebion is the official IRIB platform with better reliability. Aparatchi is simpler and sometimes offers channels Telewebion doesn't. Use whichever works in your region.

Can I learn Farsi from watching Aparatchi?

Only at advanced levels (B2+). No subtitles, no learning features, native-speed content. It's immersion, not instruction. Beginners will be completely lost.

Does Aparatchi work outside Iran?

Generally accessible internationally, though stream quality varies. Some channels may have regional restrictions or connectivity issues depending on your location.

What channels does Aparatchi offer?

IRIB national channels plus some satellite and regional channels. The lineup can change. News, entertainment, sports, and children's programming are typically available.
◆ Try it — the way I’d run it in a lesson
Role-play: the taxi.

I play the driver, you play yourself. I’ll wave you off — قابل نداره. Your job is not to believe me. Insist, twice, with a smile:

خواهش می‌کنم، بفرماییدkhâhesh mikonam, befarmâyid“please, I insist”
نه، اینطوری نمی‌شهna, intori nemishe“no, this won’t do”
We run it three times, then swap roles. By lesson’s end you’ll taarof without thinking — slang, tone, and all.

Get it wrong and the worst that happens is a warm laugh and a story they’ll tell for years. Get it right — refuse the tea twice, accept on the third — and you’ll watch a face open up. You didn’t just speak Persian. You played the game.
