What it means
تخممرغپز (tokhmmorgh-paz) is a small kitchen appliance that cooks eggs using steam, typically producing soft-boiled, medium-boiled, or hard-boiled eggs simultaneously in a tray. The word is built entirely from native Persian parts: تخم (tokhm) means seed or egg, مرغ (morgh) means bird or chicken, and پز (paz) is the contracted form of the verb پختن (pokhtan), to cook. The full compound therefore means, literally, “chicken-egg cooker.” The everyday word for a boiled egg is تخممرغ آبپز (tokhmmorgh-e âbpaz), which uses the same پز root.

A traditional Iranian breakfast (sobhâne) often includes a boiled egg alongside bread, butter, jam, and tea, so egg-cooking appliances fit naturally into the morning kitchen routine. In most Iranian homes, eggs are still boiled in a saucepan on the stove, and the dedicated تخممرغپز is a relatively recent addition to the kitchen.
