What it means
تشییع جنازه (tashyi’-e jenâze) means funeral procession. It combines two Arabic-origin words: تشییع (tashyi’, from root ش-ی-ع, meaning to accompany or escort) and جنازه (jenâze, from root ج-ن-ز, meaning the bier or corpse carried on a stretcher). The ezâfe connector -e is Persian grammar, but both content words are Arabic. This full phrase is the version most commonly heard in everyday speech, while تشییع alone is used in formal written announcements. There is no meaningful semantic difference between the two forms.

Cultural note
In Iranian Islamic tradition, the تشییع جنازه typically begins at a mosque or the family home, and the body is carried on a stretcher (تابوت, tâbut) by male relatives and friends who take turns bearing it as a mark of respect. Burial must take place as soon as possible after death, so the procession usually happens within twenty-four hours. Women may attend but in many traditional communities do not proceed to the graveside itself.
