What it means
پذیرش (pazirash) is a fully native Persian word, formed from the verb پذیرفتن (paziroftan, to accept) with the deverbal suffix -ش. It covers two related meanings: first, the physical reception desk or admissions counter at a hospital, hotel, or government office; second, the abstract act of accepting or acknowledging something, such as a request, a candidate, or a responsibility. In everyday speech you might hear میز پذیرش (miz-e pazirash) for the reception desk, or قبول and پذیرش used almost interchangeably for acceptance, though پذیرش tends to be slightly more formal. Its opposite is رد (radd), refusal or rejection.

Cultural note
In Iranian hospitals and clinics, the پذیرش counter is the nerve center of the visit: patients submit their insurance cards, national ID, and referral letters there before seeing any doctor, and the staff at پذیرش often determine how long the wait will be. In universities, پذیرش also refers to the annual university entrance process tied to the national کنکور (konkur) exam, making it a word with high emotional stakes for Iranian students and families.
