لابی (lâbi) is a direct loanword from English “lobby,” referring to the entrance hall or waiting area of a hotel or building. There is no native Persian replacement for this word.

اقامت

اقامت (eqâmat) is an Arabic loanword from the root ق-و-م, meaning a stay or period of residence. It appears on visa forms and hotel registrations throughout Iran.

رزرو

رزرو (rezerv) is a loanword from French “réserve/réserver,” meaning reservation or booking. It is used for hotels, restaurants, flights, and any advance booking in everyday Persian.

پذیرش

پذیرش (paziresh) is the Persian verbal noun for reception or check-in, used at hotel front desks, hospitals, and offices. It comes from the native verb paziroftan, to accept.

تأخیر

تأخیر (ta’khir) means delay, an Arabic verbal noun from the root a-kh-r (to be late or behind). It is used in Persian for flight delays, late arrivals, and postponements of any kind.

پرواز

پرواز (parvâz) means flight or flying, a native Persian word built from the root par (wing, feather) and vâz (from vazidan, to move through air). Used for airline flights and the act of flying.

مرز

مرز (marz) means border or boundary, an Old Iranian word present in Persian since Avestan times. It appears in both geographical and metaphorical contexts in everyday speech.

گمرک

گمرک (gomrok) means customs, the border authority that inspects goods and baggage. It entered Persian via Ottoman Turkish gümrük, which itself came from Byzantine Greek kommerkion.

ویزا

ویزا (vizâ) is a direct loanword from French visa, itself from Latin videre (to see). It means visa in Persian and is used identically across formal and casual speech.

گذرنامه

گذرنامه (gozarnâme) is the formal Persian word for passport, a compound of gozar (passage) and nâme (document). You will hear it in official contexts and at border crossings.
