نقشه

نقشه (naqshe) means both map and plan or scheme in Persian. Borrowed from Arabic naqsh (engraving, design), its dual meanings are both active in everyday speech.

صبحانه

صبحانه (sobhâne) means breakfast, a mixed-origin word combining Arabic sobh (morning) with the Persian suffix -âne. It is the standard term across all registers in Iran.

سوئیت

سوئیت (su’it) is a French loanword (suite) meaning either a studio-style furnished apartment or a premium hotel suite. In Iranian real estate, it specifically describes an open-plan single room.

مهمانخانه

مهمانخانه (mehmânkhâne) means guesthouse or inn, a pure-Persian compound of mehmân (guest) and khâne (house). It is warmer in tone than mosâferkhâne and signals affordable, informal lodging.

ترمینال

ترمینال (terminâl) means terminal, borrowed from English. In Iran it refers to bus terminals (intercity travel hubs) and airport terminals. Tehran alone has several major bus terminals.

پارکینگ

پارکینگ (pârking) means parking lot, garage, or the act of parking, borrowed directly from English. The verb form is pârk kardan. Parking scarcity is a major issue in Iranian cities.

بنزین

بنزین (benzin) means petrol or gasoline, borrowed from German Benzin. It is the standard term for car fuel in Persian. Diesel has a separate word: gâzu-il.

پمپ‌بنزین

پمپ‌بنزین (pomp-benzin) means gas station or petrol station. A compound of two loanwords: pomp (French: pump) and benzin (German: petrol). The formal alternative is jâygâh-e sukht.

مینی‌بوس

مینی‌بوس (minibus) is a direct English loanword for a small bus. In Iran, minibuses serve fixed city routes and inter-town shuttles, sitting between large buses and shared taxis in capacity.

موتورسیکلت

موتورسیکلت (motorsiklet) means motorcycle, borrowed from French motocyclette. In everyday speech it is shortened to موتور (motor). Motorcycles are ubiquitous in Iranian city transport.
