What it means
نصب (nasb) comes from Arabic نَصْب, which means the act of erecting, setting up, or planting something upright. In classical Persian it was used for installing a tent pole, raising a flag, or positioning an object. Today it is the universal term for installing software, applications, drivers, or hardware. The verb نصب کردن (nasb kardan) means “to install,” and نصب شدن (nasb shodan) means “to be installed.” The noun نصب by itself can refer to the installation process or the act of setting something up. A related form is نصبکننده (nasb konande), meaning installer.

- این اپ رو نصب کن. (In app ro nasb kon.) “Install this app.”
- آپدیت بعد از نصب کامل میشه. (Apdeyt ba’d az nasb kamel mishe.) “The update completes after installation.”
- دوربین رو نصب کردن. (Doorbin ro nasb kardan.) “They installed the camera.”
- نصبش چقدر طول میکشه؟ (Nasbesh cheghadr tul mikeshe?) “How long does the installation take?”
Cultural note
نصب is a good example of a classical Arabic-Persian word that migrated into the digital vocabulary without being replaced by a loanword. While English-origin words like دانلود (download) and آپلود (upload) entered Persian directly, نصب was already available with exactly the right meaning of setting something in place, so it was adopted for software installation naturally. This makes نصب feel more formal and “standard” than many tech words, and it appears in official government IT documentation and school textbooks as the correct term.
