What it means
بهروزرسانی (be-ruz-resani) is a compound noun built from two Persian elements: بهروز (be-ruz), meaning “up to date” or “current,” and رسانی (resani), a nominalised form of رساندن (resandan), meaning “to deliver” or “to bring to.” Together they convey the idea of bringing something to a current state, which maps directly onto the concept of a software or system update. The verb form is بهروزرسانی کردن (be-ruz-resani kardan), meaning “to update.” In very casual spoken Persian, the English loanword آپدیت (apdeyt) is more common, but بهروزرسانی dominates in formal writing, app interfaces, and official communications.
How to use it
- بهروزرسانی سیستم رو نصب کن. (Be-ruz-resani-ye sistem ro nasb kon.) “Install the system update.”
- گوشیم بهروزرسانی میخواد. (Gushiam be-ruz-resani mikhaad.) “My phone needs an update.”
- بعد از بهروزرسانی دوباره امتحان کن. (Ba’d az be-ruz-resani dobaare emtehaan kon.) “Try again after updating.”
- بهروزرسانی خودکار رو خاموش کردم. (Be-ruz-resani-ye khodkaar ro khaamush kardam.) “I turned off automatic updates.”
Cultural note
بهروزرسانی is one of the success stories of the Farsi Academy’s effort to coin native Persian equivalents for technology terms. Unlike رایانامه for email, which failed to displace ایمیل in speech, بهروزرسانی has genuinely penetrated app interfaces, operating system menus, and tech journalism in Iran, sitting comfortably alongside the colloquial آپدیت. The coexistence of both forms reflects how Persian handles technology vocabulary: a formal native compound for written contexts and an English borrowing for quick spoken use.
