What it means
گزارش (gozâresh) means a report, account, or news bulletin. It is a pure Persian word built on the verb گزاردن (gozârdan), which carries the old sense of transmitting or conveying something. You will hear it from a schoolchild handing in a گزارش کتاب (gozâresh-e ketâb, a book report) just as readily as from a journalist delivering a live گزارش (gozâresh) on the radio. A close companion is خبر (khabar, news, piece of information), which is shorter and more informal, while گزارش implies something more detailed and structured.

Cultural note
In Iranian offices and government bodies, the گزارش is a fixture of daily paperwork. Employees are often asked to submit weekly گزارشهای کاری (gozâresh-hâ-ye kâri, work reports) detailing what they accomplished. News channels use the word constantly: گزارشگر (gozâreshgar) is the standard word for journalist or reporter, literally the one who delivers the account. The word carries no bureaucratic stigma on its own; it simply means the account of something.
