What it means
اطلاعرسانی (ettelâ-resâni) refers to the act of spreading or delivering information to the public, whether through official announcements, media, or institutional channels. The word is a compound: اطلاع (ettelâ) is borrowed from Arabic, meaning awareness or notice, while رسانی (resâni) comes from the Persian verb رساندن (resândan), to deliver. Together they form a modern hybrid that government offices, news agencies, and PR departments use constantly. A close synonym is اطلاعرسانی عمومی (public information), and it contrasts with تبلیغات (tablighat), which leans toward propaganda or promotion rather than neutral communication.
How to use it
- وظیفه ما اطلاعرسانی به مردم است. (vazifeh-ye mâ ettelâ-resâni be mardom ast.) “Our job is to inform the public.”
- کمپین اطلاعرسانی راهاندازی کردیم. (kâmpein-e ettelâ-resâni râh-andâzi kardim.) “We launched an information campaign.”
- سیستم اطلاعرسانی اداره خراب است. (sistem-e ettelâ-resâni-ye edâreh kharâb ast.) “The office notification system is broken.”
- این اطلاعرسانی دیر شد. (in ettelâ-resâni dir shod.) “This announcement came too late.”
Cultural note
In Iranian bureaucratic and media culture, اطلاعرسانی carries a distinctly official weight: government ministries often have dedicated اطلاعرسانی units, and state television uses the term for public service broadcasts. Because the word blends Arabic and Persian roots, it reflects the way modern Persian administrative vocabulary was built during the twentieth century, consciously fusing classical Arabic borrowings with native Persian word-forming suffixes to coin new formal terms.
