What it means
صفحه لمسی (safhe-ye lamsi) means “touchscreen,” the display panel you interact with by touching or tapping rather than clicking a button. صفحه comes from the Arabic word ṣafḥa, meaning a flat surface or page, and لمسی derives from the Arabic root lams, meaning touch, with the Persian adjectival suffix -i. Both roots entered Persian through Arabic, making the compound Arabic in origin. In very casual speech, young Iranians sometimes just say تاچ اسکرین (tâch eskrin), borrowed directly from English, though صفحه لمسی is the standard written form.

Touchscreens became central to Iranian everyday life with the rapid spread of smartphones through the 2010s. The Academy of Persian Language and Literature (Farhangestan) has endorsed صفحه لمسی as the preferred Persian equivalent for “touchscreen,” and it appears in technical journalism and product descriptions. In practice, younger speakers mix the formal term with the English borrowing تاچ اسکرین depending on context, using the Persian form in writing and the English one in quick spoken exchanges.
