What it means
در کل (dar kol) means “overall,” “in general,” or “all in all.” The word کل (kol) is borrowed from Arabic (كل), meaning “all” or “entirety.” The preposition دَر (dar) is Persian. Together they create a summarizing phrase that signals you are stepping back from details to give the big picture. It is most common in spoken, colloquial Farsi. A close synonym is به طور کلی (be tore kolli), which carries the same meaning but sounds more formal and is more common in writing.
