What it means
اسپم کردن (espam kardan) means “to spam” someone or something, that is, to flood a person’s inbox, comment section, or feed with a high volume of repeated or unwanted messages. The word اسپم (espam) is taken directly from English “spam” and paired with the Persian light verb کردن (kardan, to do). In spoken Persian the word is pronounced with a short e at the start: espam. The term covers both deliberate spamming, such as sending someone twenty messages in a row to get their attention, and automated or commercial spam. A related phrase is اسپم خوردن (espam khordan), meaning “to receive spam” or “to get spammed,” which uses the verb khordan (to eat or to receive) in its colloquial passive sense.

Cultural note
In Iranian social media use, اسپم کردن carries two distinct registers. Among friends it can describe affectionate over-messaging, where someone sends twenty voice messages in a row because they are excited or anxious. In a more negative sense it describes unwanted commercial messages, bot activity, or coordinated harassment. Instagram and Telegram both use the English word spam in their Persian-language interfaces, which has cemented اسپم as the standard term rather than any Persian-only alternative.
