What it means
گرد آمدن (gerd âmadan) is a pure Persian compound verb meaning to gather, to come together, or to assemble. It is formed from the preverb گرد (gerd, “around” or “about”), found in classical Persian with the sense of encircling or collecting, and آمدن (âmadan, “to come”). The phrase is slightly more formal and literary than its common synonym جمع شدن (jam shodan, “to gather”), which is built from the Arabic loanword جمع. When Iranians want to evoke a sense of people naturally drawing together around a fire, a table, or a shared purpose, گرد آمدن carries that warmer, more rooted connotation.

Cultural note
Gathering, گرد آمدن, lies at the heart of Iranian social life, from the Nowruz haft-sin table where the whole family assembles, to the sofre spread on the floor for shared meals. Classical Persian literature, including the Shahnameh, uses گرد آمدن to describe warriors assembling before battle, giving the verb a sense of collective readiness and unity.
