What it means

دوم (dovvom) means second, the ordinal form of دو (do, two). Persian forms ordinals by adding the suffix -om (or -omin in the adjectival form دومین, dovvomin) to the cardinal number. دوم is used for position in a sequence, for ranking in a competition, and for describing the second item in a list. نفر دوم (nafar-e dovvom) means the second person, دوم شدن (dovvom shodan) means to come in second place, and دوم دبستان (dovvom-e dabestan) means second grade of primary school. The doubled v in dovvom reflects the pronunciation Iranians use in careful speech, and both dovvom and the lighter spoken form dom are heard depending on register and pace.
