کپشن (kepshan) is borrowed directly from English “caption” and refers to the text block a user writes when posting a photo or video on Instagram, Twitter, or any similar platform. It can be a single emoji or several paragraphs of storytelling. The Persian spelling کپشن reflects the way the English word sounds to Persian ears, with the final syllable adapted to the Persian sound system. There is no widely used native Persian alternative: زیرنویس (zirnevis) means subtitle or caption on a video player, but in social media contexts کپشن is universal.
