What it means
ریپورت کردن (riport kardan) is the everyday Persian compound verb for “to report” in a digital context, specifically the action of flagging a post, comment, story, or user account to the platform’s moderation system. The base noun ریپورت (riport) is borrowed directly from English “report.” It is paired with کردن (kardan), the native Persian auxiliary verb, to form the compound. You use it the same way you would use “report” in English: گزارش دادن (gozâresh dâdan) exists as the formal native Persian equivalent but is rarely used in casual speech about social media. ریپورت کردن is the universal colloquial choice across all platforms including Instagram, Telegram, and Twitter/X.
How to use it
- این اکانت رو ریپورت کردم. (in akâunt ro riport kardam.) “I reported this account.”
- اگه محتوای بدی دیدی، ریپورتش کن. (age mohtavâye badi didi, riportesh kon.) “If you see bad content, report it.”
- چرا پستم رو ریپورت کردن؟ (cherâ postam ro riport kardan?) “Why did they report my post?”
- بهتره این کامنت رو ریپورت کنیم. (behtar-e in koment ro riport konim.) “We should report this comment.”
Cultural note
Reporting accounts and content is a common social media action in Iran, but it carries an extra layer of sensitivity. Some users have had accounts removed after coordinated mass-reporting campaigns by opposing groups, sometimes described colloquially as a flood or rain of reports. Awareness of this practice means many Iranian users are cautious about what they post publicly, especially on Instagram, which unlike Telegram does not offer end-to-end encryption by default.
