What it means
تزریق خون (tazriq-e khun) is the standard formal term for a blood transfusion, the medical procedure of transferring donated blood or blood components into a patient’s circulation. Tazriq derives from the Arabic root z-r-q (to inject, to instil), and is also the ordinary word for any injection or infusion. Khun (blood) is native Persian. Together they form a genitive construction: literally the injection of blood. In a clinical setting you may also hear انتقال خون (entegâl-e khun), where entegâl (transfer) is likewise Arabic, which is sometimes preferred in written medical literature.

- تزریق خون تو عمل انجام شد. (tazriq-e khun tu amal anjâm shod.) “The blood transfusion was carried out during the operation.”
- گروه خونیتو قبل از تزریق خون چک میکنن. (goruh-e khunieto qabl az tazriq-e khun chek mikonan.) “They check your blood type before a transfusion.”
- بانک خون اینجا تزریق خون رایگان داره. (bânk-e khun injâ tazriq-e khun râygân dâre.) “The blood bank here provides free blood transfusions.”
Cultural note
Iran’s Blood Transfusion Organisation (سازمان انتقال خون ایران) runs a nationwide network of blood banks and is one of the larger such organisations in the Middle East. Blood donation is widely encouraged and is framed as a religious and civic duty in public campaigns, supported by fatwas from senior clerics permitting and praising donation. The word tazriq alone is the everyday Persian word for any medical injection, so context or the addition of khun makes the specific meaning clear.
