What it means
جدول درسی (jadval-e darsi) means “class schedule” or “academic timetable,” the chart that shows which courses meet on which days and at what times. Both parts come from Arabic: “jadval” (جدول) derives from Arabic jadwal (table, grid, schedule), and “darsi” is the adjectival form of dars (lesson). Students check their jadval-e darsi at the start of each semester to plan their week. A close synonym in everyday speech is “barnâme” (برنامه, program or plan), though jadval carries a stronger visual sense of a structured grid or chart.
How to use it
- جدول درسیم رو هنوز نگرفتم. (jadval-e darsim ro hanuz nagareftam.) “I still haven’t gotten my class schedule.”
- جدولت با جدول من یکیه؟ (jadvalat bâ jadval-e man yekiye?) “Is your schedule the same as mine?”
- جدول درسی این ترم خیلی شلوغه. (jadval-e darsi-ye in tarm kheyli sholuqe.) “The schedule this semester is really packed.”
- جدول درسی رو سایت دانشگاه گذاشتن. (jadval-e darsi ro sâyt-e dâneshgâh gozâshtand.) “They posted the class schedule on the university website.”
Cultural note
At Iranian universities, the class schedule is typically published on the university’s online portal before registration opens, and students must plan their course selections around the fixed grid. Conflicts between course times are a common headache, and students often spend time rearranging their jadval to avoid clashes. High-demand courses fill quickly, so acting on the schedule as soon as it appears is part of Iranian student culture.
