ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about learning Persian with El.

Getting Started

Do I need any prior knowledge of Persian?

Not at all. I work with complete beginners through advanced speakers. In your free trial lesson, I’ll assess your current level and design a learning path that makes sense for where you are.

What platform do you use for lessons?

All lessons are conducted through Preply, which has built-in video calling, a virtual classroom, and scheduling tools. You’ll book and manage everything through your Preply account.

How do I book my first lesson?

Click any ‘Book a Free Trial’ button on this site. It’ll take you to my Preply profile where you can schedule a free 25-minute introductory lesson. We’ll use that time to understand your goals and see if we’re a good fit.

What do I need for a lesson?

Just a stable internet connection, a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone, and a willingness to speak. I provide all materials. No textbooks required.

Lessons & Method

What makes your teaching different from other Persian tutors?

I teach the Persian that’s actually spoken in Iran today: street slang, cultural context, political vocabulary, tarof. Most tutors and textbooks teach formal, literary Persian that sounds unnatural in conversation. I bridge the gap between textbook Farsi and real-world communication.

Will I learn to read and write Persian script?

Yes, if that’s your goal. I integrate reading and writing naturally into lessons. However, if you’re focused purely on conversational skills, we can prioritize speaking and listening. It’s your call.

How long until I can hold a basic conversation?

It depends on your starting point and how consistently you practice, but most dedicated students can hold basic conversations within 8-12 lessons. Persian grammar is actually simpler than many European languages. The challenge is cultural context, which is exactly what I focus on.

Do you assign homework?

I provide optional practice materials and recommendations between lessons. Nothing mandatory, but students who engage with the materials between sessions progress noticeably faster.

Pricing & Booking

How much do lessons cost?

A single 50-minute lesson is $30. I also offer a 10-lesson bundle for $270 (saving you 10%). Your first 25-minute trial lesson is completely free.

What’s your cancellation policy?

You can reschedule or cancel a lesson up to 4 hours before the scheduled time through Preply. Late cancellations may be charged. Life happens. Just give me a heads up when you can.

Do you offer group lessons?

Currently, I only offer private one-on-one lessons. Group options may become available in the future. For now, private lessons allow me to fully customize the experience to your level and goals.

The App

When is the app launching?

The app is currently in development with a target launch in 2026. Join the waitlist on the App page to get early access and updates.

Will the app replace private lessons?

No. The app and lessons serve different purposes. The app will be great for vocabulary building, cultural context, and daily practice. Private lessons provide the personalized conversation practice, feedback, and deep cultural learning that no app can replicate. They’re complementary.

Will the app be free?

Pricing hasn’t been finalized yet. There will likely be a free tier with limited content and a premium subscription for full access. Waitlist members will get special early-bird pricing.
